How are teams selected?

 

Age Group Coordinators will utilize a combination of first-hand observations and Coaches evaluations to assist in determining team make up. Every effort is put into ensuring children are placed into the team that is right for them.

The make-up of players within teams

Team selection is based on known player history (assessments), player potential, work ethic, coachability, individual attributes and coaching / team requirements. Teams are selected on who can best fill the positions and team / coach requirements not necessarily those perceived to be the ‘next best’ players. Team selection is a subjective process and will not always be agreed upon by players and parents.

When does my child move up? 

The age group that your child is placed in depends on their age at the cut off date. For the Winter season that is 30th June and for Summer it is 31 Dec.

What about special requests?  

From time to time some families may have special requests such as playing with a friend or family member or moving up an age group early. In order for the relevant Age Group Coordinator to become aware of these requests they need to be communicated on the player registration form at the time of registering. While WJB will make their best efforts to satisfy these requests, it is important to remember team selection is firstly based placing a child in the correct team / grade for their abilities first and not every request will be granted.
